Garment Industry Saw Declining Trend in Jan.-June

The economic operation of garment industry in January-June is as follows:


Production

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to June, the garment production of enterprises above designated size in garment industry totaled over 9.6 billion pieces, declining by 13.69% year-on-year, narrowing 6.6 percentage points compared with the first quarter.


Domestic sales

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to June, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to over CNY 17.22 trillion, down 11.4% year-on-year. Thereinto, the retail sales of clothing, foot & head wear and knitted goods by major retailers above designated size was CNY 360.9 billion, declined by 21.8% year-on-year.


According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to June, China's online retail sales was about CNY 4.35 trillion, growing by 14.3% year-on-year. In the online retail sales of physical commodities, wearing goods decreased by 2.9% year-on-year.


Export

According to the Customs Newsletters, from January to June, China's garment and accessories exports totaled over US$ 53.64 billion, down 19.42% year-on-year.


Investment

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to June, the actual investment of China's garment industry decreased by 37.9% compared with the same period of 2019.


Benefit

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to June, the main business income of textile enterprises above designated size totaled over CNY 577.63 billion, with year-on-year decline of 16.39%; the total profit was CNY 23.53 billion, down 27.34% year-on-year; the operating income margin was 4.07%, declined by 0.62 percentage points year-on-year.
