Development Status and Trend Prospects of Three-dimensional Weaving Technology and Equipment for High-performance Fibers

Abstract: The three-dimensional (3D) weaving technology of high-performance fibers has become an important research focus in modern materials and textile science, demonstrating outstanding advantages in enhancing interlaminar properties and reducing interfacial delamination in composite materials due to its superior structural design. This paper provides a comprehensive review of recent progress in highperformance fiber-based 3D weaving techniques and equipment. It provides a detailed overview of the types, properties, and application scenarios of high-performance fibers, highlighting the formation mechanisms and potential uses of typical 3D textile techniques such as 3D braiding and 3D weaving. Additionally, the technological features and current application status of advanced weaving machinery — including Cartesian, rotary, orthogonal, and inner-ring-track 3D braiding systems — are systematically examined. Lastly, future trends in 3D weaving technology for high-performance fibers are discussed from four perspectives: intelligent and automated upgrades, integration of new materials and advanced manufacturing processes, customized complex structures with enhanced performance, and environmentally sustainable production. This review aims to offer valuable insights and references to support future innovations in this domain.
