Measurement and Evaluation of Thermal Insulation for Cold Weather Protective Clothing Based on Thermal Manikin

Abstract: To research the feasibility and applicability of the measurement and evaluation of thermal insulation for cold weather protective clothing in China, the standardized total thermal resistance and applicable minimum temperatures for 4 MET of activity were tested and calculated according to ASTM F2732-16 Standard Practice for Determining the Temperature Ratings for Cold Weather Protective Clothing based on the thermal manikin. And they were compared with the temperature range of China’s winter. It indicated that the results of standardized total thermal resistance of cold weather protective clothing in China were stable and reproducible based on the thermal manikin and related ensemble. The pertinent applicable minimum temperatures for 4 MET of activity could cover the temperature range of China’s winter and be used to evaluate the thermal insulation of cold weather protective clothing.
