China’s value-added industrial output expanded 5.8% year on year in May, official data showed.
The manufacturing sector saw its value-added output climb 6.2% year on year last month, with that of equipment manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing up by 9% and 8.6%, respectively, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
In the first five months of this year, the country’s industrial output gained 6.3 percent compared to a year ago, the data showed.
The industrial output is used to measure the activity of large enterprises each with an annual main business turnover of at least 20 million yuan (about 2.79 million U.S. dollars).
By product, in the first five months, the production of 326 out of 623 kinds of products increased year-on-year. Among them, fabric output declined by 3.3% year-on-year in May to 2.7 billion meters and grew by 0.2% year-on-year from January to May to 12.6 billion meters. And the output of chemical fibers grew by 5.2% year-on-year in May to 7.35 million tons and increased 5.5% year-on-year to 35.04 million in the first five months.
