Abstract: This paper described a method of in situ synthesis of silver nanoparticles in cotton fibers through complexing and reducing silver ions by amino groups. The amino group functional cotton fibers were prepared by grafting amino terminated hyperbranched polymers on the oxidized cotton. The in situ synthesis of silver nanoparticles in control cotton fabric and amino group functional cotton fabric were compared. The results indicated that silver nanoparticles generated in amino group functional cotton fabric were much smaller than that in control cotton fabric. The silver nanoparticles generated in amino group functional cotton fabric also had higher laundering durability. After 30 times repeat laundering% the bacterial reduction rates against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were able to maintain above 99.9%.
