China’s industrial sector maintained upward momentum and saw continuous improvements in the quality of growth in the first three quarters of this year. The country’s value-added industrial output rose by 6.2% year on year from January to September, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
In September alone, the industrial output expanded 6.5% year on year, accelerating from a 5.2-percent rise in August.
The industrial output is used to measure the activity of large enterprises, each with an annual main business turnover of at least 20 million yuan (about US$2.82 million).
A breakdown of the data showed that the manufacturing sector’s value-added output increased by 7.3% year on year last month, while that of the textile industry grew by 2.2%.
By product, in September, the production of 362 out of 623 kinds of products increased year-on-year. Among them, fabric output increased by 0.4% year-on-year in September to 2.8 billion meters and declined by 0.3% year-on-year from January to September to 23.8 billion meters. And the output of chemical fibers grew by 4.8% year-on-year in September to 7.45 million tons and increased 5.6% year-on-year to 65.16 million tons in the first three quarters.
