China's Textile and Apparel Exports in the First Half of 2021

According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, China's textile and apparel exports maintained steady growth in the first half of 2021. In CNY-denominated and US$-denominated terms, the exports increased by 3.3% and 11.9% respectively over the same period last year, and maintained rapid growth compared with the same period in 2019. Among them, textiles exports declined year-on-year due to the decrease in exports of surgical masks, while apparel exports grew rapidly driven by the rebound in external demand.


In CNY-denominated terms, the exports of textile and apparel totaled CNY 908.87 billion in the first half of this year, up by 3.27% year-on-year. Thereinto, textile exports reached CNY 444.85 billion, seeing a year-on-year decrease of 14.63%. And apparel exports were CNY 464.02 billion, increased by 29.25% year-on-year.


In June, textile and apparel exports were CNY 178.14 billion, down 13.38% on last year, and seeing a month-on-month increase of 12.65%. Among them, textile exports were CNY 80.62 billion, decreased by 29.55% year-on-year, up by 2.27% month-on-month. And the apparel exports were CNY 97.52 billion, rose by 6.91% year-on-year and 22.96% month-on-month.


In US$-denominated terms, from January to June 2021, China's textile and apparel exports totaled more than US$ 140.08 billion, up by 11.90%. Thereinto, textile exports reached over US$ 68.55 billion, down 7.48% year-on-year, but up by 16.95% on 2019. The apparel exports were more than US$ 71.52 billion, surged by 40.02% year-on-year.


In June, textile and apparel exports were US$ 27.66 billion, down 4.71% year-on-year, up by 13.75% month-on-month. Among them, textile exports were more than US$ 12.51 billion, declined by 22.54% year-on-year, increased by 3.23% month-on-month. Apparel exports reached over US$ 15.14 billion, up by 17.67% year-on-year.
