China's General Administration of Customs released national cargo trade data for April 2020. In the first four months, the foreign cargo trade value totaled CNY 9.07 trillion, down 4.9% year-on-year, and its decrease was 1.5 percentage points lower than that of the first quarter. Among them, the exports were CNY 4.74 trillion, seeing a year-on-year decrease of 6.4%. In April, the foreign trade was CNY 2.5 trillion, seeing a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.7%, and exports were CNY 1.41 trillion, up 8.2% year-on-year.

Exports of textiles and apparel are now clearly polarized: textiles, driven by epidemic prevention supplies, rebounded rapidly and drove the overall export growth, while apparel exports continued to decline due to the reduction in external market demand, and the gap between the two fields was further widened.

In CNY-denominated terms, from January to April 2020, textile and apparel exports totaled CNY 466.4 billion, down 7.4% year-on-year. Thereinto, textile exports were CNY 261.3 billion, up 5.9% year-on-year; and apparel exports were CNY 205.1 billion, plummeted by 20.2% year-on-year.

In April, textile and apparel exports were CNY 150.17 billion, up 14.8% year-on-year. Among them, textile exports were CNY 102.79 billion, ballooned by 56.2% year-on-year, and apparel exports were CNY 47.38 billion, down 27.1% year-on-year.

In US$-denominated terms, in the first four months, textile and apparel exports totaled US$ 66.62 billion, down 10% year-on-year. Thereinto, textile exports were US$ 37.31 billion, up 2.9% year-on-year; while the apparel exports were US$ 29.31 billion, declined by 22.3% year-on-year.

In April, textile and apparel exports were US$ 21.36 billion, up 9.8% year-on-year. Among them, textile exports were US$ 14.62 billion, soared by 49.3% year-on-year; while the apparel exports were US$ 6.74 billion, plunged by 30.3% year-on-year.
