Improving China’s Textile Value-added Chain under the “Belt and Road” Strategy

Abstract: At present, China’s textile and garment industry is mainly engaged in raw material procurement

and manufacturing, finished product processing and trading, and it has just begun to involve in value-dded

segments such as designing, R&D, marketing and branding. The Chinese Government’s “belt and road”strategy provides the textile and garment industry with a new opportunity for entering into high valueadded segments of the global textile value-added chain. By taking Jiangsu Province – a major textile and garment producer in China as an example, the paper describes the operating status-quo of textile and garment enterprises, analyzes both pros and cons of China’s textile value-added chain and finally discusses the opportunities and paths for improving the textile value-added chain under the “belt and road” strategy.
