China’s value-added industrial output expanded 5.2 percent year on year in August, official data showed. The growth slowed from a 5.7-percent rise in July, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
In the first eight months of this year, China’s industrial output increased by 6.2 percent compared to the same period last year. The industrial output is used to measure the activity of large enterprises, each with an annual main business turnover of at least 20 million yuan (about US$2.8 million).
A breakdown of the data showed that the manufacturing sector’s value-added output increased by 5.7% year on year last month, while that of the textile industry grew by 3.4%.
By product, in August, the production of 319 out of 623 kinds of products increased year-on-year. Among them, fabric output decreased by 0.7% year-on-year in August to 2.7 billion meters and declined by 0.6% year-on-year from January to August to 21.1 billion meters. And the output of chemical fibers grew by 7.1% year-on-year in August to 7.45 million tons and increased 5.5% year-on-year to 57.73 million in the first eight months.
