Industrial Value-added of China's Textile Industry down 3.5% in May

China's value-added industrial output, an important economic indicator, went up 0.7 percent year on year in May, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed. On a monthly basis, the industrial output in May registered an increase of 5.61%.


The industrial output is used to measure the activity of designated large enterprises with an annual business turnover of at least CNY 20 million (about US$ 2.96 million).


The manufacturing output increased by 0.1% year-on-year in May and 2.6% in the first five months. In May, the textile industry's value-added output declined by 3.5%, and it decreased by 0.4% in the January-May period. By product, in May, the production of 256 out of 617 kinds of products increased year-on-year. Among them, the output of fabric dropped by 6.2% year-on-year to 3.2 billion meters in May and decreased by 1.3% to 14.8 billion meters in the January-May period, while the output of chemical fibers declined by 3.5% to 5.67 million tons in May and totaled 27.64 million tons in the January-May period, unchanged from the same period of last year.


And the sales-output ratio of industrial enterprises was 96.4%, down by 1.0 percentage points year-on-year.
