Economic Operation of China's Apparel Industry in Q1

The economic operation of apparel industry in the first quarter is as follows:


Production

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, the apparel production of enterprises above designated size in apparel industry totaled 5.53 billion pieces, up by 3.39% year-on-year, 20.71 percentage points slower than the same period of 2021.


Domestic sales

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to CNY 10.86 trillion, up by 3.3% year-on-year. Thereinto, the retail sales of clothing, foot & head wear and knitted goods by major retailers above designated size was CNY 237.36 billion, down 2.2% year-on-year.


According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, China's online retail sales saw a declining trend. In the online retail sales of physical commodities, wearing goods edged up by 0.9% year-on-year.


Export

According to the Customs Newsletters, from January to March, China's apparel and accessories exports totaled US$ 35.68 billion, seeing year-on-year growth of 7.4%.


Investment

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the fixed-asset investment in China's apparel industry witnessed a year-on-year growth of 37.3% in the first quarter, up by 20.2 percentage points over the same period in 2021. Based on the data analysis, the investment direction focuses on the transformation and upgrading of technology, brand building and channel layout, showing optimistic market expectations.


Economic Benefits

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to March, the operating income of enterprises above designated size in the apparel industry totaled CNY 327.62 billion, up by 9.3% year-on-year. And their total profits reached CNY 13.38 billion, up by 10.9% year-on-year.
