Garment Industry Saw Declining Trend in 2019

The economic operation of garment industry in 2019 is as follows:


Production


According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to December 2019, the garment production of enterprises above designated size in garment industry totaled 24.47 billion pieces, declining by 3.28% year-on-year.


Domestic sales


According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2019, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to CNY 41.16 trillion, surged by 8.0% year-on-year. Thereinto, the retail sales of clothing, foot & head wear and knitted goods by major retailers above designated size was CNY 977.81 billion, edged up 2.6% year-on-year.


According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to December, China's online retail sales was CNY 8.52 trillion, growing by 19.5% year-on-year. In the online retail sales of physical commodities, wearing goods increased by 15.4% year-on-year.


Export


According to the Customs Newsletters, in 2019, China's garment and accessories exports totaled US$ 151.37 billion, down 4.0% year-on-year.


Investment


According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to December, the actual investment of China's garment industry increased by 1.8% compared with the same period of 2018.


Benefit


According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2019, the main business income of textile enterprises above designated size totaled about CNY 1.60 trillion, with year-on-year decline of 3.45%; the total profit was CNY 87.28 billion, down 9.75% year-on-year; the margin of sales was 5.45%, down 0.38 percentage points compared with the same period in 2018; the gross profit margin was 15.04%, grew by 0.21 percentage points year-on-year; the share of three overheads in turnover was 8.91%, up 0.20 percentage points year-on-year.
