Abstract: At present, polyethylene glycol (PEG) is often added into Bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP) aqueous solution to decrease the modulus of Bletilla striata polysaccharide fiber. BSP/PEG fiber was prepared by phase-inversion method at room temperature. Electronic scanning microscopy (SEM) and universal strength tester were employed to characterize the effect of PEG on the molecules and concentration of the fiber properties, including micromorphology and mechanical property. The presence of PEG in the hybrid fiber results in the change of the microstructure from solid section to porous structure. The formation of porous cross-section has reduced the modulus of the hybrid fiber. The research indicated that the application of PEG with different molecules can decrease the modulus of BSP fiber which can be used for preparing BSP dressing with hemostatic function.
