Design and Preparation of Warp-knitted Mesh with Chitosan Fiber for Ventral Hernia Repair

Abstract: Three kinds of hernia repair mesh were fabricated through warp-knitting technology with chitosan fiber. And the properties of chitosan fiber, yarn and fabric were studied, including thermal property, mechanical property and antibacterial property. Results showed that the mechanical properties of these three meshes are poor. In terms of overall performance, the mesh fabricated with atlas stitch is superior to the other two meshes. Chitosan mesh is one of the best materials for ventral hernia repair due to its excellent hygroscopic property, thermal property and antimicrobial property. The study has a theoretical and practical significance for the application of chitosan in ventral hernia repair.
