Effects of Multilayered Structure on the Thermal Insulation Property of Polyester Batting

Abstract: Taking polyester batting as the main thermal insulation material and combed with several spacer materials like cotton gauzes, aluminized films and aluminized nonwovens, this paper studies the effects of spacer materials on the thermal insulation property of multilayered battings and its mechanism. Results show that adding spacer materials can increase the thermal insulation property of the multilayered batting because the radiative heat transfer in the batting could be restrained effectively by spacer materials; the higher the infrared reflectivity of the spacer materials, the better the thermal insulation property occur within the multilayered batting; and the thermal insulation property of batting improved further when using aluminized materials as the spacer materials, which also make the batting light-weighted.
